Welcome to our farm!
Peaceful Heart Alpacas is run by Sharla Willis, her parents Mike and Linda, and her son David. We were seeking a peaceful lifestyle where we could spend time working together outside, and we found it with our alpacas among the Blue Ridge Mountains. The first two questions visitors usually have when they visit our farm are "What are they?" and "What do you do with them?" Alpacas are in the camelid family, related to both camels and llamas. Originally from the Andes Mountains in South America, the alpaca is smaller than the llama and has a very gentle temperament. We raise them for the luxurious fiber they produce. Stronger and warmer than wool, alpaca has a feel much closer to cashmere because of the fineness of the individual fibers. Due to a lack of coarse fibers and lanolin in the fleece, alpaca garments do not cause the itchiness associated with wool and is considered hypoallergenic. Alpaca garments can be worn comfortably against your skin. We invite you to visit our online farm, where you can get to know our alpacas. We try to update the pictures often. You will enjoy all the different colors of the animals. Alpacas come in 22 different colors and some alpacas are multi-colored. Our farm store offers a variety of alpaca products made at our farm and imported, fair-trade certified items as well. If you are looking for yarn or alpaca fiber to spin, there are links that will take you directly to those sections of our store. We also offer fiber art classes throughout the year, so check back with us often. If you are in the area, we invite you to visit the farm and get to know our alpacas. We are located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, directly across from the overlook at Mile Post 204. Just minutes from I-77 and Highway 52, Peaceful Heart Alpacas is easily accessible from Virginia and North Carolina. We hope to see you soon! |
