New Alpacas on Our Farm
We are so excited to introduce you to two fabulous alpacas who have just entered our herd. One is a four time Champion, junior herdsire who will be joining our herdsire lineup this spring. The other is a beautiful, black, proven female who will add totally new genetic lines to our breeding herd.
Sunset Hills Polar Ice brings incredible genetics, a gorgeous fleece, and a long list of show wins. You can read more about him on his herdsire page. He will be available for breeding beginning this spring, and joins our impressive group of herdsires. We are offering special discounted pricing for breedings this year in honor of our new group of herdsires and recent recognition for our longtime herdsires Tennyson and Powergrid.
Sunset Hills Espressa brings a much needed dark color background back to our herd. In the past few years we have sold a lot of our black alpacas. The addition of Espressa and our new herdsire Maximus will help us increase the black genetics in our herd again. Look for the results in some darker crias this fall and next year. Espressa is the mother of two beautiful black crias so far, one a color champion. We cannot wait to see who she will bring to our farm.
Polar Ice and Espressa are both home now and getting settled in to farm life at Peaceful Heart.
TweetSpring Snow
Like most of the country, spring has started with snow. It is beautiful to see, but we’re looking forward to spring-like weather arriving so we can plant pasture and start on the spring clean-up in preparation for shearing. You can see more snow pictures on our Facebook page (you don’t have to sign up for Facebook to see them).
TweetCongratulations to a New Alpaca Farm
Congratulations to Kathi Davis and Mark McKinney on the purchase of our Easter package. They will be beginning their new alpaca farm with two beautiful proven mothers both due this spring.
These sweet girls are five and six years old, and are both bred to our nationally recognized herdsire Powergrid. Powergrid has given us 11 crias, two by Sunny, and passes on his consistently fine fiber to all his fabulous crias. His latest crias will be arriving in May and June, and will provide, along with their dams, a great foundation for Kathi and Mark’s new herd.
Sunny is one of my favorite alpacas. A sweet girl born on our farm, Sunny has given us three beautiful crias and is a great mother. Cherokee has not been a part of the farm as long, but has proven herself to be just as sweet and gentle. She is a large girl with solid bone and, like Sunny, an incredible genetic background. Included in this wonderful package, are four additional breedings over the next couple years to any of our champion herdsires. A real opportunity to enhance the genetic diversity of their new herd.
Kathi and Mark will be choosing their farm name and moving their new herd onto their farm soon. We’re looking forward to working with them as they get started on their alpaca adventure.

TweetCongratulations to Majestic View Alpacas
Congratulations to Majestic View Alpacas on the purchase of two of our beautiful, pregnant alpacas. Pirate’s Treasure of Peaceful Heart is bred to the incredibly dense FWD Kubla Khan and is due June 3. Raquelita of RC is bred to the fabulously fine Rivanna’s Andean Silver and is due in September.
Raquelita and Treasure join a wonderful growing herd of alpacas represented by the great showing of their first cria, Majestic View’s Ellianna in her first couple of shows, including a First Place win above an incredibly competitive class of 10 at the Virginia Classic. Ellianna is a daughter of Peaceful Heart’s Lord Tennyson.
Raquelita and Treasure moved to their new home last Sunday, and are settling in well.
TweetLord Tennyson wins Get of Sire
Last weekend we attended the Virginia Classic Alpaca Show with two of the farms who purchased their foundation herds from us. The Virginia Classic is one of our favorite alpaca shows, held in Lexington Virginia each year in conjunction with a llama show. This year we were very pleased that Peaceful Heart’s Lord Tennyson won Get of Sire. Tennyson was represented in the ring by Majestic View’s Ellianna (owned by Majestic View Alpacas), Peaceful Heart’s Sir Galahad (owned by It’s a Sweet Life Alpaca Farm) and Peaceful Heart’s Lady Clare (owned by our farm). The Get of Sire class judges the quality and consistency of the offspring of the sire. The judge was impressed with the consistency of the fleece style (crimp and lock structure), fineness and density as well as the similarity of conformation in all three crias. We were very proud of them and Lord Tennyson, and it was a great way to end a good show.
In the Walking Fleece Show, Sir Galahad repeated the performance of his sire in 2008 by winning First and Champion. Ellianna also did well, placing Third among this very large group of white and light alpacas.
In the show ring, Ellianna was the star, winning First place in a class of 10 beautiful alpacas. Sir Galahad also did very well in his class of 12. He placed 5th in this highly competitive class.
You can see more pictures from the show on our Facebook page.
