It’s A Boy!
What a great way to start our fall cria season! We welcomed a beautiful little boy to the farm this morning. We have named him Peaceful Heart’s Wade R. in honor of my grandfather who would have celebrated his 108th birthday in just two days. My grandfather was a pastor who had a great influence on many people’s lives. Mom has been waiting for just the right alpaca to name after her father (our farm often names alpacas for family members, for example Henrietta Ruth, Bonnie Alice, Ima Joy, Vesta, Elise, Shareen, etc.). Our little Wade was born this morning during church, and is an adorable dark (possibly gray, though it is still hard to tell) boy with a white face and boots. His ears and a spot on his neck are definitely silver gray.
Wade is out of our lovely true black Espressa and beautiful Andean Silver. He is the half sibling of our previous Silver son Groucho Marx, and is just as cute. He is much smaller (just 13.4 pounds compared to Groucho’s birth weight of 22 pounds), but incredibly active for a brand new cria.
Wade and Espressa are in the front pasture with several of our other mom’s to be, waiting for more crias to come this season. We invite you to come by and watch Wade run around. You can see more pictures and a short video of Wade on our Facebook page. (You do not have to sign in to Facebook to see them.)
TweetAlpaca Boys on their New Farm
Yesterday we moved three of our sweet boys to their new farm. Becket, Ninja and Marcus have joined the alpaca girls of Cobb Hill Alpacas in Rural Retreat. This growing farm was ready to add some herdsires to their farm, and chose three boys from excellent bloodlines.
Becket is out of our beautiful Lord Tennyson and Henrietta Ruth. He looks exactly like his impressive sire, just in a lovely light fawn color. He has a dense fleece and is ready to begin his breeding career.
Ninja is a gorgeous true black boy out of Kubla Khan and Sugar Cookie. He is just 15 months old, so has some more growing to do, but he looking like he is going to be as impressive as his sire. Kubla Khan is no longer boarding on our farm, but we were so impressed with him and his offspring that we added his full sibling Amaro Khan to our group of herdsires.
Marcus is the littlest of the three boys at just a year of age. He is our last cria from Powergrid, and his fleece reminds me of his sire. He is incredibly fine and consistent.
We will be excited to see the crias these boys produce for Cobb Hill Alpacas in the future. Our fall alpaca sale is still going on, so give us a call if you would like to set up a time to come see our boys or girls and pick out the right alpacas for your farm.
TweetYarn Sale
I have been working hard to get all our yarns online and updated, as well as updating our yarn arrangement in the shop. I have been having so much fun, and getting inspired for fall and winter knitting that I just had to share.
.
We now carry all 18 colors of the beautiful Aire yarn. It is a light and airy yarn that works up quickly and is perfect for knitting, crochet and weaving. I have been having a great time weaving beautiful triangle shawls out of this lovely yarn.
We have sold out of some of our alpacas’ 2013 yarns already, but have plenty of these lovely natural colored alpaca yarns available. Our yarns from this year’s shearing are not back yet, but I will be sending an email out when the 2014 yarns arrive this winter. In the meantime, enjoy our great selection of yarns from our alpacas online and in the store. You can learn more about the shearing and sorting processes, as well as take a virtual tour of the fiber mill where we process our yarns and rovings here on our webpage in some of our earlier posts.
.
Our alpacas come in an incredible range of natural colors, but sometimes we want to work with something a little brighter, so we also have a full room of alpaca yarns in all weights and colors. We carry all 51 colors of Classic Baby Alpaca Yarn (pictured at right), as well as other yarns from The Alpaca Yarn Company and Plymouth Yarns. We also have a great selection of patterns for each yarn weight. If you have any questions about using a pattern to work with our yarns, give us a call and we can help you figure out which yarn would work best.
Come by the farm or visit us online to see our great selection of yarns.
