Felted Tote Bag Class

Due to popular demand, we have added another felted tote bag class to our Fall Fiber Arts Schedule.  On September 28, we will be meeting in our fiber arts studio to felt one of a kind tote bags.  They are truly functional art pieces.

No previous fiber art experience is required to make these gorgeous bags.  The class will be taught by local fiber artist Karen Simpson.  We will be using the wet felting method,  which allows us to create unique fabrics from colorful wool and natural alpaca fibers using warm, soapy water and rubbing.

The class will meet from 9am to 5pm, with lunch provided.  The class costs $80, and $30 for materials.  We hope you can join us for this fun day.  Preregistration is required, a $25 deposit will reserve your space.  You can sign up in the shop, by phone, or online.

We also have a few spaces left in our October Weaving a Shawl on the Triangle Loom.  It is scheduled for October 25-27.

Hillsville Flea Market – Labor Day Weekend 2013

We are getting excited about the Hillsville Flea Market coming up the end of this month.  Labor Day comes early this year, so the Flea Market will be held in downtown Hillsville August 30-September 2.

Hillsville Flea Market

When we began our alpaca farm in 2006 and opened our store, people started telling us that we should participate in the annual Labor Day flea market in Hillsville. We couldn’t imagine that our alpaca socks, sweaters and yarns would fit in with what we envisioned a flea market to be, but they assured us, “it’s not a typical flea market”. Trusting our new neighbors we signed up and set up a booth in the VFW area of the flea market. Were they ever right. We fit right in at the Hillsville Flea Market, which has everything you can imagine and many things you can’t until you see it. Over half a million people each year come to Hillsville, Virginia to shop for antiques, furniture, guns, toys, and now alpaca products.

Come by and see us for a rest and some cold water

We invite you to visit our booth at the VFW. We set up each year in spaces 503-505, row 4. From the main snack bar, we are on the row directly in front of the women’s restroom door.

Stop by our booth for a free bottle of water and to rest your feet.  We’ll have cold bottles of water available, so just ask when you come by.  We’re taking some extra chairs, so take a moment to rest your feet before you get back to walking.

This year we will have some alpaca yarns and alpaca socks marked down 25%.  We’ll have a selection of all our alpaca products at the flea market from hats and gloves to sweaters and coats. We also will have alpaca blankets, alpaca plush toys, and many items hand crafted from our alpacas’ fiber right here at Peaceful Heart Alpacas.  I am having a lot of fun making alpaca hats right now, and we’ve been busy creating our handwoven shawls.

The flea market is open Labor Day weekend, August 30-September 2, Friday-Sunday from 8am-6pm and Monday 8am-4pm.  Parking is easily accessible from Highway 52 in the VFW parking lot next to Victory Way Baptist Church. To avoid traffic, we recommend coming in from exit 8 (Fancy Gap) off I-77. Exit 14 (Hillsville) gets pretty crowded.

Hope to see you there!

The farm will be open our regular hours Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm & Sunday 1-5pm, so be sure to stop by to see the alpacas while you are up this way.

Fall Alpaca Sales List Posted

Tennyson's Becket of Peaceful Heart Alpacas

Our Fall 2013 sales lists for male and female alpacas are now online. Each season we review our herd to decide which alpacas to make available for sale.  These decisions always require a lot of thought and discussion among the family as we take into account the genetics of everyone involved and how each alpacas fit into our farm’s breeding goals.  We also look at who has sold during the previous season, and make sure we not only maintain our genetic diversity, but have a very diverse group of alpacas available to offer for sale.

This season we have some great girls bred to the brand new champion herdsires we added to our herd this year.  All these girls have been bred for spring 2014 crias, though we are waiting on pregnancy tests to confirm.  We have added some new faces to our female alpacas for sale, as well as some who are just coming off maternity leave.   This group of girls offers an incredible selection of colors, bloodlines and great fiber.   All of our pregnant girls sell with an additional breeding after they deliver, and those who are not currently pregnant sell with two breedings, making each girl her own three in one package.  Right now we are offering Design Your Own Alpaca Package discounts when you purchase more than one female.

Our group of young male alpacas for sale has also been revised and updated.  We have a group of boys who possess some incredible fiber characteristics and genetics.  Their ARI certificates and most recent fiber stats are online, but we can also discuss their and their parents’ fiber characteristics and EPDs to help you find the boys that will fit best with your breeding goals.  We can also help you find the right fiber alpaca if you are not wanting to raise alpacas, but would just like to have a couple to eat the grass and grow beautiful fleece.

We offer discounts for the purchase of multiple alpacas, and enjoy working with people to help them create a package of alpacas that will best fit the goals they have for their farm.  Contact us today to discuss any of these great alpacas, and schedule a visit to meet them.
